LONG ISLAND CITY, QUEENS — A street in Long Island City will become pedestrian-only under a new revamp by the NYC Department of Transportation.

The project on 12th Street between 44th Avenue and 43rd Road will add public seating that can be used for community events and close the street to traffic, including parking.

Construction begins this month and should be complete by the end of July, according to a DOT spokesperson. The spokesperson did not address a question on the cost of the project.The VOREA Group, a real estate developer, will be responsible for maintenance as the project's partner.

The DOT reimburses new StreetSeat partners for up to $12,000 in project costs and existing partners for up to $5,000, according to its website.
